Back up your scores
Your scores live on this device. That keeps them private and makes the app work with no signal — but it also means a lost phone is a lost record unless you keep a backup. The file below is everything, in plain readable JSON. Email it to yourself or drop it in your cloud storage. An account can sync them across devices instead.
Restoring merges by round, so importing a backup never deletes scores already on this device.

Course Ratings get revised, and the ones we ship come from a public database that is not complete everywhere. If a course here is wrong or out of date, fix it — rounds you have already posted keep the ratings you played off.

What this app is, and is not
Fairway Index calculates a Handicap Index using the World Handicap System as published in the Rules of Handicapping. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the USGA or The R&A, and it does not issue an official Handicap Index. For a handicap that counts in competition, join a golf club affiliated with your national association.
The USGA/R&A expected-score model is not published. This app uses a documented approximation: (Handicap Index + 3.0) / 2 per nine, or — before you have an Index — the nine you actually played. Your Index may differ slightly from GHIN for rounds where this step applies.
Course data from Fairway Index course data and OpenGolfAPI (ODbL 1.0) and Golf Canada course directory. Coverage is good in the United States, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, and thin elsewhere — Japan, Germany, France and Korea are barely in the public data at all. A course we have no ratings for asks you for its two numbers once, and you can correct any course under “Your courses” above. Always check the Course Rating and Slope against the scorecard before you rely on a number.
